Who we are

The Spokane Ski Club began in 1930 with just a handful of passionate skiers and a dream to make winter sports accessible on Mt. Spokane. Armed with axes and determination during the Great Depression, these pioneers built the first lodge by hand and carved out trails that would become the foundation of one of the Northwest’s most respected ski organizations.

From those humble beginnings, the club grew rapidly. By the late 1930s, membership topped 200, and the club introduced rope tows, electric lights for night skiing, and hosted major Pacific Northwest championships. After World War II, progress soared—new lodges, expanded terrain, and in 1947, a 3,300-foot chair lift opened up an incredible ski area that drew visitors from across the country. The addition of Siesta Trail for beginners and Helge Sather Hill for jumpers cemented the club’s reputation as a leader in ski development.

Today, the Spokane Ski Club stands as a testament to community spirit and volunteer effort. For nearly a century, members have worked together to create a place where skiers of all ages can enjoy the thrill of winter sports. It’s more than a club—it’s a tradition of adventure, friendship, and love for the mountains.
